Light Rail Safety Presentations for Your School or Organization
"Safety Rules!" is a community outreach initiative aimed at educating residents about
NJ TRANSIT's light rail systems and safety concerns. You can schedule
a presenter to visit your school or community organization to learn about light rail
and how to practice safe behavior.
The purpose of this program is to increase public awareness about light rail safety and
the need for caution around rail tracks. "Safety Rules!" focuses on key points such as:
- Staying alert and being aware of approaching light rail vehicles since they are relatively quiet
- Looking both ways before crossing tracks
- Crossing only at designated areas
- Properly observing crossing gates, signals or traffic lights
- Staying off light rail tracks
- Staying away from overhead electrified catenary wires and support poles
- Always standing behind the safety line when waiting on the station platform
NJ TRANSIT's Safety Education Program is geared to students at every age level, as well as adults
and community groups. Presentations include a video and can be conducted in small or large groups.
Educational and informational materials are distributed with each presentation.
